The Teacher Trainee Association of Ghana has yesterday, Thursday, 10th June 2021, paid a courtesy call on the Vice President of the land, His Excellency Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the Jubilee House. Among some of their purpose at the Jubilee House is to thank the President of the Republic, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for restoring the Teacher Trainee Allowance.
As many Ghanaians can remember, President John Dramani Mahama during his regime canceled the Teacher Trainee Allowance with the aim of creating more room for admission of Ghanaians into the various training Colleges across the country. But some of the students and opinion leaders advised President John Dramani Mahama to back out from this decision but he did not heed the counsel.
The Teacher Training Allowance is what supports some of the students at that level. This allowance was brought on board as a measure to motivate students to choose the Teaching Profession as their career. And at a point in time, it became a source of livelihood for most of the students that the cancelation of the allowance really pained most of the students.
After Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo won the 2016 Presidential Elections, some Political Analysts attributed the high marginal defeat of President John Dramani Mahama to some of these decisions like canceling the Teacher Trainee and Nursing Training Allowances. It was upon this restoration of the Teacher Trainee Allowance in 2017 that the Executives of the Teacher Trainee Association in your pictures below visited the Vice President yesterday.
The Executives described the restoration of the allowance as an unforgettable legacy to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
They presented a nice gift in the image of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to the Vice President. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia also thanked them for their visit and assured them of the government's continuous investments in the education sector to ensure easy access to education for Ghanaians at all levels.
