Kpone Katamanso Municipal Education Directorate Launched Teacher Prize and 10th Anniversary

In an attempt to celebrate the milestone and reward the efforts of the hardworking teachers and education workers in its directorate, a Teacher Award Scheme and 10th Anniversary was launched.

Theme: 

"A Decade of Providing Quality Education Through Stakeholders' Commitment: Sustaining Our Excellence and the Way Forward"

At the programme was: Deputy Director General, Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh who happened to be the Guest Speaker for the occasion. The Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Joseph Akuartey Tetteh, Hon. Dr Samuel Okoi Amanquah, the Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Harry Evans Arthur, Municipal Director of Education, Kpone Katamanso Municipal,  Director of Education, Tema Metro, Nii Tei Kojo Amankwaa Suni I, Gbetsile Mantse (Chairman of the Occasion), Nii Tetteh Otu II, Paramount Chief of the Kpone Traditional Area, COHBS members, Headmaster, Kpone Community Senior High School, Very Reverend Samuel Glover Asante, Presiding Minister, Mount Sinai Methodist Church Kpone, GNAT Rep, NAGRAT Rep, GNAPS Rep, Students and parents to mention but a few.

Before the commencement of the launch, the chairman, Nii Tei Kojo Amankwaa Suni expressed his heartfelt gratitude to teachers within the municipality for their selflessness and dedication towards work over the period under review. He touched on how the Municipal struggled and chalked successes worth celebrating. In furtherance, he counted among others the challenge of overcrowding in our schools and how stakeholders need to collaborate and reflect on how it could be managed.  


Better still, the glamour of the programme was illuminated with an amazing choreography performed by St. Lawson Junior High School. It is one of the best-performing schools within the Kpone Katamanso Municipality irrespective of its immeasurable infrastructure challenges. 


However, the gathering could not wait to welcome the gentleman who set enviable records in the directorate since his arrival in August 2020. He was in the person of the Municipal Director of Education, Mr Harry Evans Arthur. He is the 4th Municipal Director of Education of the directorate. 


According to him, his passion for education and learner academic performance is his strongest motivation to ensure that, teachers and education sector workers are fully motivated so that, they could give out their best.


Mr Arthur gave highlights on the gargantuan transformations within the period under consideration and his vision for the Municipality, when it comes to education. He touched on how he intends to team up with the Municipal Assembly to bridge the infrastructure gap especially where about 28 of its schools still run a shift in the municipality. He further indicated how he shared ideas with stakeholders to properly document school lands and initiated Fence the School Now Policy to ensure utmost security in schools within the Kpone Katamanso Municipality.

He cited Kpone Community Senior High and the Katamanso Schools as the first among many that got fenced. The Director further stressed his full support for girl child education and underscored his support in ensuring that no child drops out of school even if she is pregnant. 

 He spoke on the idea of a Teacher's Retirement Scheme that he initiated and handed over to the Municipal COHBS to manage it.

On his side, the Deputy Director General, Guest Speaker, Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh eulogised the management of the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Education Directorate and teachers for their loyalty towards work. 


In his speech, the Deputy Director General threw light on the significance of teacher licencing, teacher professional development and teacher professional growth. He mentioned a few of the trends in basic education in Ghana not forgetting the New standards-based curriculum and the common core programme coupled with the Galop Programme and more. Dr Tandoh also touched on key reforms in the following areas within the service: teacher recruitment, and teacher deployment among others.

The Deputy Director General commended the effort of the Kpone Katamanso Municipal Education Directorate in transforming the face of education and putting in place measures to reward the hard work of teachers within the municipality. He supported the teacher prize with an amount of Ten Thousand Ghana Cedis (Gh10,000.00).

 In furtherance, he called on all students to value not only what they teach them in the classroom but also other values outside the classroom. He said, "Be proud of every effort of teachers."

Meanwhile, the occasion was also used to inaugurate the Municipal School Management Committee and the Municipal Parent Teacher Association.


Dr Kwabena Bempah Tandoh who inaugurated both Associations entreated the Municipal SMC and Parents Association to liaise with teachers to enhance learner academic performance in our schools. He charged the members to bring the parents together and partner with the schools. 

 Hon. Joseph Amanquah, Member of Parliament for the Kpone Katamanso Constituency, applauded the Municipal Director and his team for the initiatives. He mentioned his consistent financial sponsorship for students within the municipality. He also supported the programme with an amount of One Thousand Ghana Cedis (Gh1,000.00). He promised further support for the Teacher Prize and the 10th Anniversary.

The anniversary cloth was finally unveiled in a grand style awaiting the actual celebration slated for October 2023.
