The National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) popularly known as "Brilla" competition is an annual academic competition between secondary schools in Ghana. The competition seeks to test students on the field of Mathematics and Science and how they could relate this in problem solving among others. Alls schools across the country make it a target to train students in order to be able to win the national trophy

The Ashanti Regional Qualifiers Competition begins today, Saturday, May 22, 2021 and ends on May 27, 2021. In the previous edition in 2020, schools from Ashanti Region performed brilliantly where a school from the region represented the region at the finals. The school was Opoku Ware School, located in Santasi in the Ashanti Region. Though Opoku Ware School, could not win the ultimate, their performance in the final was not bad either.

Schools from the region this year are looking to book a place at the Preliminary Stage (Prelims) of the National Competition which would be held later in the year at 2021 at Accra, Ghana's capital. Various schools would be competing in a four-school contest where only one winner would emerge from a contest. The winners in the various qualification contests then qualifies for the Prelims at the national level. These schools would also qualify for the Regional Championship which would be organized after the regional qualification comes to an end. About 80 schools would be competing in this year's Ashanti Regional Qualifiers Competition.

You may not find some schools on the list. This is because these schools have an automatic slot in the one-eighth (1/8th) stage of the national competition. In view of this, such schools do not participate in the regional qualification competition. Some of the schools you cannot find were able to reach the quarter final stage in the previous competition held in 2020. Hence they are classified as "seeded" schools and thus have automatic slots.

These schools (seeded schools) are listed below

- Opoku Ware School (OWASS)

- Prempeh College (PC)

- Kumasi Academy (KUMACA)

- Anglican Senior High School, Kumasi (KASS)

- Kumasi Sec. Tech. School (KSTS)

- Armed Forces Senior High Tech. School

What are your predictions for the various contests? Which schools would emerge as winners of the various contests? Is your school a seeded school? Kindly leave your comments below.
