GIFEC, Kofi Annan ICT center Launches First Virtual Labs for JHS, SHS Students

Story by Stephen Nani

Kofi Annan center of ICT and GIFEC launched the very first ever educational virtual labs project as the Memorandum of Understanding (M.O.U.) has been signed between Ghana-India Kofi Annan Center of Excellence in ICT and the Ghana Investment Fund For Electronic Communication (GIFEC).

This project is necessary since the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the increasingly widening gap between the rich and poor in society.

This project would have a piloting of a virtual laboratory in 3 secondary schools, 1 university, 2 colleges of education and 2 community information centers in various parts of the country. After successful pilot trial, it would be expanded across the country.

In an interview with Dr. Kwasi Adu Gyan, the Director General of the Kofi Annan Center of Excellence, he indicated that the project would identify and solve challenges involved in the use of ICT for teaching and learning. That way the gap between the rich and poor would be minimized.

He went on to to explain that with the nature of the project, it would be difficult to give a particular time frame for completing the project but he believes by the end of the year, something good would come out of the project.
