"Curriculum Without Providing Textbooks Will Not Yield Any Positive Results'' - ITN Suggests To GES

Informed Teachers Network (ITN) is one of the fastest-growing social media teachers’ groups in Ghana. With about 7,000 followers on the various social media platforms, the said group continuously updates its members with current educational trending issues.

One of the posts published on their page indicated that drafting a beautiful curriculum without providing textbooks will not yield any positive results as far as teaching and learning are concerned in the classroom.

“The first point GES should consider if they are really serious is to provide textbooks and curriculum. They can draft the most beautiful strategies but it will backfire without textbooks”, they wrote.

The Ghana Education Service Two years ago implemented the new curriculum also known as the standard-based curriculum for Kindergarten, Lower primary, and upper primary without issuing textbooks.

Teachers across the length and breadth of the country were left stranded due to this circumstance.

Teachers were however given resource packs to cater to the teaching and learning process but according to observations made, evaluation of teachers concerning the implementation of the standard curriculum was nothing to write home about.

Another curriculum is however set to take place in 2021 and the above-mentioned group is calling on GES to, first of all, make textbooks available before its implementation.

In implementing the Common Core Programme, text materials must be made available to enhance its completeness and success.
