All Basic 4 Learners To Be Tested By WAEC On This Date

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, has disclosed that WAEC will conduct a national standardized test for basic four (4) learners across all public schools in Ghana.

The goal of the test 

The goal of the test is to drastically reduce learning poverty among leaders, which has increased among prospective students in the country due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Minister disclosed this at the 4th edition of the National Education Week Program on the theme “Reimagining education for national transformation on September 2021 at the Labadi beach hotel.

In addition to that, the national test is to evaluate learners whether they can read or not. This will also help the government to see the challenges that confront Ghana's education sector. 

Expectation of the test 

According to the Minister, the Education Ministry expects over 90% of basic 4 learners in the country to be proficient in English. 

Date and Subject 

The national test on Literacy and Numeracy will be conducted by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) in the month of November 2021. In pursuance of the date, the test papers have been distributed to all district education offices in the country. The Districts will in turn distribute them to basic school heads. 

Parents to be given the test results 

The test results of the test will be given to every parent. The purpose is to monitor their ward's progress. Furthermore, they will be available on a website for public access.

Education Ministry to monitor every district

The Ministry will also be able to see how every district is performing, which will be displayed on a dashboard. Aside that, the Ministry will also to see the attendance of every district.
