NAGRAT President Advises Teachers Not To Waste Time On Students' Hairstyle Anymore

The president of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Angel Cabornu has advised his members who are mainly teachers not to waste time attempting to check the kind of hairstyles students wear to school anymore.

The leader of the teacher union added that, parents are now free to allow their children to do any hairstyle of their choice to school since teachers and school authorities will not inspect them.

His statement follows the Achimota school versus the Rastafarian community case which was ruled in favour of the latter by the Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court yesterday.

Mr. Cabornu believes the decision by the court to order the authorities of the Achimota school to admit the two Rasta students goes beyond the school in question. He thinks the court ruling will now be applied to every school in the country.

NAGRAT issued a communiqué when the news broke to support the decision of the school authorities in refusing admission to two Rasta students placed by the Computerized School Selection and Placement Systems under the Ghana Education Service (GES).
