GES to Introduce National Examining Body as an Alternative to WAEC?

The West Africa Examination Council(WAEC) is the only examining body responsible for the conduct of Examination for Basic school certificate and secondary school certificate. WAEC has failed to protect it's integrity in securing examination question papers, leakage of examination question papers has been a challenge for the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), examination question papers have been circulating on social media few hours before the start of the examination.

Students rely on the leak questions papers instead of going through their books to revised what they have been taught by their teachers, students nowadays spent more time on social media for entertainment, during examinations somebody out there will definitely leak the question to them. Several questions are posted on social media purported to be the question to be written in the examination, the authentic question is the paper they received at mid night to the start of the examination, all questions received after 12am turn to be questions from WAEC.

Many Ghanaians including Civil Societies and Organizations have called on the government to introduce a second alternative to WAEC, with a strong competition, WAEC will sit up.

Students should be provided with options to choose the type of examination they want instead of given WAEC monopoly. In Nigeria, students have three options to choose from, certification from these options are acceptable in tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

Students with WAEC certificate are required to write other forms of examination to gain admissions in the European universities, medium of instruction in our schools are English, Senior High School students with certificates from any school with English language as a medium of instruction is qualified to applied for universities in the English speaking countries.

Ghana Education Service sets to introduce National Examining board as an alternative to WAEC, the national examining board will be responsible for conducting examination for the final year students in the Junior High School and the Senior High Schools, the national examining board will award Junior High School graduates with a National Diploma certificate and a Higher National Diploma for the Senior High School graduates, duration for the Junior High School and the Senior High School will be extended to meet the requirements of the Diploma Certification.

Technology should be injected in the conduct of Examinations in the country to avoid leakage of examination question papers, leakages of examination question papers will produce unqualified students in our tertiary institutions which will affect the the country's workforce in the future. Imagine students with leaked question papers making the required grades to read medicine, they will come out as half baked doctors.
