The Ghana Education Service, (GEC) organization responsible for schools and education in the country has finally reacted after a secondary school pupil was severely beaten by a headmaster in the Ashanti region of Ghana.
In taking steps, Mr. Francis Donkor, Headmaster of Jachie Pramso Senior High School has been interdicted effective today pending investigations into the alleged caning of the student.
He has been directed to hand over the Administration and Management of the school to the Ashanti Regional Director of Education this according to the Ghana Education Service.
Background to the story;
Mary Amoako, a 19-year-old and General Acts student was given several lashes by the headmaster, who was angry with her for being kind to give her jacket to one male student who came to class without wearing a uniform.
I think the headmaster allowed emotions to play a part in dealing with the whole situation. As a leader, you would not expect a student to just bail out a fellow student who is under punishment, that will look a bit disrespectful and that is when the emotions will set in.
However, under no circumstances must you give out lashes to a student such as what we have witnessed.
