It's been barely over a month since the West African Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidates finished writing their final SHS exams. The examination body, West African Examination Council (WAEC) has informed the general public about the release of the provisional results for the just ended WASSCE.
WAEC disclosed that the results of several students have been cancelled while the results of many others are being withheld pending investigations. In a press release signed by the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, Mrs. Agnes Teye-Cudjoe, the examination body stated that the Subject Results of 5457 candidates have been cancelled for engaging in collusion, bringing foreign materials to the examination hall and tearing part of their question papers to solicit assistance.
It further stated that the entire results of 1051 students have also been cancelled. WAEC stated that these students were known to have engaged in brought mobile phones into the examination hall.
The Entire Results of 388 students have been withheld pending investigations for incidents of examination malpractices. WAEC stated that the results of these students may be released or cancelled based on the outcome of the investigations.
Again, the examination body stated that the examination scripts of several candidates from 158 schools in certain subjects were also being checked for incidents of examination malpractices.
Why do students always want to engage in examination malpractice? Do you think that WAEC's move to cancel the results of several students is too harsh? Let us know your thoughts by leaving all your comments below.
