A University Lecturer by name Dr. Mawutor has described the Teacher Unions as incompetent. His claim was in response to Ghana National Association Teachers (GNAT) inability to train their members about how to use ICT tools and applications. He made this claim on TV3's morning show, NEWDAY this morning, 20th April, 2021.
He continued by saying that some of the Teacher Union Leaders are just politicians. He said, "during the lockdown, GNAT claimed that their members lacked the capacity to introduce ICT into teaching. Some Union Leaders are just politicians, working for some political parties to be in office".
"I share with the plight of the teachers, especially those in deprived communities. They working very hard despite being resource-starved".
The University Lecturer felt that, the Teacher Unions collect dues from members and that should be directed to empower their members. He admonished them to be creative and innovative.
"UTAG organises ICT training to equip us on how to conduct research with computer. Once you can read and write, you should be able to use these applications",he added.
Dr. Mawutor's co-panelist, Elvis Darko of the Finder Newspaper, said GNAT should use the huge sums of money generated from membership dues in capacity development rather than buildings.
