There are considerations to conduct WASSCE and BECE online in future to curb exam leakages-WAEC

The Management of the non-profit-making organization (WAEC) says it is considering conducting the next WASSCE and BECE online for candidates in a bid to minimise the cases of examination leakages recorded each year.

Mrs Wendy E. Addy–Lamptey, Head of National Office – WAEC, speaking at a press conference held in Accra said digitizing the administration of the national and international examinations will help reduce the leakage of questions.

“We are hoping that people would take their examinations online, but a lot would depend on our systems. We are working with the resources made available to us,” the West African Examinations Council official told the media.

The Council’s decision for candidates to take a virtual test comes after Africa Education Watch suggested for the central government to digitize the delivery of examination question papers from the WAEC depot to exam centres.

Mr Kofi Asare, the Executive Director of the Think Tank in a post sighted by EducationWeb.com.gh said the government adopting digitization of the questions transmission process is the only way to reduce the annual leakages.

“We call for increased security of WAEC question papers from the depots to the Centres, and a digitization of the questions transmission process to minimise, if not remove the human elements involved,” Mr Asare stated in the post.

Mrs Wendy E. Addy–Lamptey commenting on measures put in place by his outfit to ensure the smooth conduct of the impending WASSCE for School said invigilators and supervisors have been urged to search candidates thoroughly.

“We wish to use this opportunity to again appeal to our Supervisors and Invigilators to be guided by the rules of the examination. We urge them to be vigilant, refrain from taking their mobile phones to the examination hall,” she noted.

The WAEC staff also advised candidates to comply with the rules and regulations of the examination and avoid any form of malpractice that could lead to the cancellation of their results and being barred from taking the WAEC exams.
