There are still huge debates ongoing regarding the Achimota school and 2 Rastafarian students. The boys were admitted pending they agreeing to shave their hair first. The boys however refused and in a show of bravado sent the case to court. After a long tussle an Accra High Court ordered Achimota School to admit the boys without the boys shaving their hair.
On ‘Good Morning Ghana’ today, Thursday, June 3, 2021, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako and Sammy Gyamfi joined Annie Afua Ampofo to discuss issues pertaining to the Achimota fracas. Afua Ampofo sat in for Dr. Randy Abbey. Both panelists agreed with the court’s decision to order Achimota to admit the boys. Annie the host then asked why nobody seems to see the reasons behind Achimota’s decision.
According to Annie, the school has a tradition that has kept and sustained the school till now. She questioned why everyone was not getting this. To this Kweku Baako asked another question. “Does the Rastafarian religious belief have the potential to contaminate the school and destroy the other students?” Annie replied that, “This is a ridiculous (laughable) question”. “It is not. Their mere beliefs cannot destroy the school’s tradition. I really don’t see that” Mr. Baako said.
According to Mr. Baako he will be happy if the school completely withdraws her decision to appeal because the boys cannot contaminate the school. Sammy Gyamfi also supported this stand and called on the school to do the right thing.
