Unlike the Junior High schools running on semester basis due to the changes made to cater for the Covid - 19 impact on education , the KG and Primary continues to run on a trimester basis. (First term, second term and third term). In the previous years the third (3rd) term used to falls between May and August but due to the covid pandemic affecting the entire educational calendar, this academic year's third term falls between September and December.
It is expected that, the third term academic calendar will end on 10th December 2021.In all this final academic term has 68 working days and a total of 14 weeks to be spent in schools.
Holidays in This Third Term
There are two public holidays to be observed as such in this term. They are;
1. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Holiday: This falls on Tuesday, 21st September 2021 in the third week of this term.
2. Farmers Day: It will be observed on the 13th week. That is Friday, 3rd December 2021.
It is expected that all Primary four pupils will write a National Standardized Test this term. This was disclose earlier in June by Ghana's Education Minister.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei-Adutwum Speaking on the subject “President Akufo-Addo’s Education Agenda: Four years and Beyond” on Sunday, June 6, 2021, stated that each one primary four students in Ghana are going to be the first batch to undergo the just introduced initiative. “The World Bank talks about learning poverty, they say 53% of students in their 10th year of various countries cannot read for understanding and Ghana is not an exception.
"That is why the President says we need to transform the space, and transformation of the space means that all fourth graders this year are going to be tested across the lengths and breadths of this country." The Minister stated.
Based on Dr. Yaw Adutwum's words the only term remaining in this year 2021 is this third term therefore it is expected that GES will collaborate and announce date for the writing of National Standardized Examination this year.
