Just when all learners and teachers at the basic level nationwide were told to remain in school for an additional week because of the maiden National Standardized Test slated for 17th December 2021, the Ministry of Education has something different to say too.
Hours after the announcement that all schools i.e. KG — JHS should remain in school and vacate next week Friday, the Deputy PRO of the Ministry of Education, Kwasi Kwarteng posted on his Facebook handle and said:
“For purposes of clarity,, please take note:JHS are to maintain their original vacation dates. Only Primary Schools are to vacate on 17th December; the same date scheduled for the conduct of the exams.”
These two bodies are however confusing teachers with their separate dates and have ended up confusing head teachers, District Directors and teachers as they find out difficult to choose whom to listen to.
Information reaching Bricy Boateng indicates that many junior high schools, especially those in the Eastern region vacated yesterday, leaving only Kindergarten and Primary divisions in school. Are those schools going to reopen on 10th January 2022 of 17th January 2022? Obviously this is against the directive of the Ghana Education Service but in favour of the Ministry of Education.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the Director-General of GES, Prof. Kwasi Opoku Amankwah had written letters to the Regional Directors of Education directing them to make sure all teachers in the three divisions adhere to the new directive by staying in school for one more week.
If you are a teacher reading this, please remain in a school for an additional week until you receive a new directive from the management of the GES or your respective District Education office. Thus, vacation has been postponed to 17th December 2022 for KG, Primary, and Junior High Schools.
