Ghana Parliament Calls For Replica of Abomoso Model SHS in 16 Regions

Members of the Parliament Select Committee on Education after they paid a working visit to the construction site of the Abomoso Model Senior High School has urged the government to build similar in all the 16 Regions of Ghana.

Led by Chairman Hon. Kwabena Amankwa Asiamah and the Ranking Member Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, the Committee this week toured the Abomoso Model SHS in the Eastern Region to ascertain the progress of work on the project.

The Model Senior High School which is about 90% complete is one of the nine (9) new model schools being constructed by the Nana Akufo-Addo led government through GETfund in some Regions of the county.

The replication of the Abomoso Model school the Members of Parliament in a post sighted on their official Facebook page said it will boost the brilliant intention of making second cycle schools more affordable and accessible in the country.

The Eastern-Region-based Abomoso Model Senior High School has amenities such as playing fields, administrative buildings, laboratories, libraries, dormitories, 24 classrooms, Principal and Assistant Principal bungalows.

7 out of the 9 schools being constructed are proposed science-focused schools while the other two are first-ever Creative Arts schools located at kwadaso and a Senior High Technical School named after ex-President John A. Kuffuor.

The former President John Agyekum Kuffour Senior High Technical School (SHTS) located in Sokoban in Kumasi of the Ashanti Region have already been added to the Computerized School Selection and Place System (CSSPS).

The Ministry of Education has disclosed the Kumasi-based Senior High Technical School next academic year will admit Free SHS beneficiaries. The SHTS is expected to offer courses like business, Home Economics and General Arts.

The inclusion of the John Agyekum Kuffour Senior High Technical School into the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) has now increased Senior High and Vocational schools in the country from 721 to 722.
