The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has invited Chief Examiners, Zonal leaders and Team leaders for coordination exercise, After Chief Examiners coordination, there will be a coordination for Team leaders and Assistant Examiners(AE). The coordination exercise will begin on Wednesday, 20th October to Friday 22nd October, 2021.
The coordination exercise gives the council opportunity to discuss marking scheme for the examination, the questions are discussed among Chief Examiners by going through the marking scheme and the questions systematically. At this point, they discussed marking scheme and the answers that are related to the question, they decide whether an answer given by students should be accepted or rejected, Chief Examiners for each subject and the subject heads together agreed on what should be accepted as an answer or rejected, if the answers given by students are correct but not captured in the marking scheme.
Whatever the Chief Examiners and the subject heads agree to be accepted as right answers are drafted and added to addendum in the marking scheme for all examiners recruited for the marking to make a reference in the marking of the scripts. Zonal heads and team leaders will begin coordination in all the zones in the ten traditional regional capitals.
The West African Examination Council (WAEC) select scripts randomly for the conference marking, the random selection of scripts give the council the general overview of candidates answers to the question. The conference marking enable Assistant Examiners, and newly recruited examiners to acquire knowledge and skills in the marking of examination scripts.
After the zonal coordination, Assistant Examiners are put into groups headed by team leader, the leader is the most experienced examiner among the group, the assistant examiners are guided by the team leader, the team leader supervise the scripts marked by the assistant examiners. Assistant Examiners submit each parcel scripts marked to the team leader for vetting, any abnormally identified in the scripts marked by the Assistant Examiner is rectify by the team leader.
The Chief Examiners also supervise the scripts of the team leaders and correct any abnormally before the scripts are forwarded to the script checkers, the script checkers goes through all the marks in the scripts and make sure the marks allocated for each question and page total tally with the marks awarded by the Examiners.
Examiners have threatened to withdraw their services if they don’t see an increment in the marking allowance, the Chief Examiners have stated that, transportation and fuel prices have gone up. For the past three years, they have not seen any increment in the marking allowance, they pay for transportation to meet their team leaders and Chief Examiners for vetting of scripts after marking each pack of the. Examiners received 3 Ghana cedis per script for WASSCE and 1.80 Ghana cedis per script for marking BECE.
