When you take our basic schools in the country, there are a lot of them still learning under trees. In this 21st Century that most countries are having a conducive environment for their young ones to study, our leaders seem to neglect schools under trees. What is devastating is that most of these are usually located in remote areas where they do not have anyone to speak on their behalf unless something bad happens.
The Northern Regions mostly have these schools under trees more than any other region in the country. But report from the Member of Parliament for Karaga Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mohammed Amin Adams indicates a project has been launched to eradicate all schools under trees in the country.
According to him, the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Sayibu together with himself today, Friday 4th June 2021, launched the first of Valco Trust 21st Century Public Community Schools Project in the Northern Region. He said that the purpose of this project is targeted removing all schools under trees in the country.
This event took place at Kambonsiya in the Karaga Constituency, where the children have been attending classes under trees. He added that through Valco Trust, the Ministry of Energy, and the Ministry of Education, these children will have a school block in three months' time.
"Education continues to be the candle that illuminates dark spots in our society, empowers communities to defeat poverty, and provides the resources for long-term development. We will therefore continue to highlight inequities in the distribution of educational infrastructure and mobilize resources to address these challenges" - He stated.
Many Ghanaians after coming across this news hailed the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and his team for their continual vision of eliminating schools under trees. If this is implemented effectively, schools under trees will be a thing of the past.
