TEXTBOOKS: NaCCA Stakeholders Engagement meeting outcome(See Details)

The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) On Thursday, May 6th, 2021, had a successful stakeholder engagement on textbook assessment at Accra College of Education, in the Greater Accra Region.

Over ninety publishers and writers from forty publishing houses across the country participated. Mr Michael Nsowah, a former Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, and Dr Samuel Awikene Antonio, the principal of Accra College of Education were also present.

The purpose of the meeting was to enlighten publishers and writers on textbook assessment to improve the quality of teaching and learning materials that support the implementation of the standards-based curriculum since quality textbooks play a key role in successful curriculum implementation.

Some of the key takeaways included: NaCCA is mandated by the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (Act 1023) to approve teaching and learning materials for use in pre-tertiary schools, excluding technical and vocational institutions in Ghana.

Teaching and learning materials include Textbooks and Supplementary Materials. And also Book assessment and approval. The Textbooks go through the content and technical assessment before approval.

NaCCA is committed to organizing regular training on the interpretation of the curriculum for publishers and writers. Publishers must develop content that promotes critical thinking and STEM education.

Publishers who may have challenges downloading curriculum and textbook submission guidelines from the NaCCA website can request them via email.
