Rescind Your Strike And Go For Negotiation: NLC Tells Teachers Union

The Secretary of the National Labour Commission (NLC) has called on the teachers union that embark on strike to resume work and go for negotiation.

The National Labour Commission wants the union to discontinue their strike before going for negotiation which they said the law does not permit negotiation whiles the union is on strike.

“In the meantime, we are advising the teacher unions to rescind their decision and discontinue the strike and pave way for the process of engagement to ensure. In the classrooms, in the office, or wherever their duty demands them to be so that their concerns can be looked at". He said.

The NLC has agreed that the cost of living is too high and it is the right of the Union to strike but they should rescind their decision for the government to quickly solve the issue at hand.

“We sympathize with them at least when it comes to the cost of living and all that, all of us are in Ghana and we know what is going on in all these, they should also be looking at the laws and then what we can do within the space of time. The most important thing is that the government and its agencies would engage them and quickly solve the problem”. He added.

This follows the withdrawing of services by the teachers union which they claimed the government do not listened to their demand for condition of service (COLA).
