10.Presbyterian University College
Presbyterian University College located in Abetifi in the Eastern Region makes the list when it comes to the top 10 universities in the world.
The University College was established on November 23rd, 2003 by the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. It was inaugurated later on March 27th, 2004 by the then president of Ghana John Kufuor.
Currently, the Presbyterian University College is partly a private and a public university in Ghana. The genesis of Presbyterian University College dates back to 1843. During that era, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana set up the first elementary school in Ghana. This simple step culminated in the institutionalization of formal education in the country. Five years later, the church founded the Basel mission seminary, a teacher-catechist seminary.
Basel Mission seminary was later named Presbyterian Training College. It was located at Akropong. At this period, the training college was the second in West Africa after Sierra Leone’s Fourah bays College.
The development led to mushrooming of many primary and secondary schools together with colleges of education. Thanks to the partnership between the Ghanaian government and Presbyterian Church.
9.University of Development Studies
UDS makes the list as well when it comes to the top 10 universities in Ghana. They lie exactly 9th on the log.The University for Development Studies (UDS) is Ghana’s first public University in the North.

UDS was borne out of the new thinking in higher education which emphasizes the need for universities to play a more active role in addressing problems of the society, particularly in the rural areas (Effa, 1998).
The University by its mandate and constituency has a pro-poor focus. This is reflected in its methodology of teaching, research and outreach services. The specific emphasis on practically-oriented, research and field-based training is aimed at contributing towards poverty reduction in order to accelerate national development.
It began academic work in September 1993 with the admission of forty (40) students into the Faculty of Agriculture (FoA), Nyankpala and currently has student population of 19,720.
8.Ashesi University College

The University of Cape Coast is a public collegiate research university located in Cape Coast, Ghana. The university was established in 1962 out of a dire need for highly qualified and skilled manpower in education.

The Accra Technical University is a public tertiary institution and the Premier technical university in Ghana. Accra Technical University was formerly known as Accra Polytechnic. They make the top 5 universities in the country.
4.University of Education, Winneba
University of Education lies fourth when it comes to the top 10 universities.
3.Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)
KNUST comes third on the list.
2.GIMPA
The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration is a public co-educational university spread over four campuses and made up of six schools, ten research centers located at Greenhill in Accra and it comes second among the country's universities.
