Six More Teachers Arrested in Kumasi Over 2021 BECE Malpractice

Examination malpractices has been a worrying concern for WAEC and other stakeholders of education in the country, and all efforts are being instituted to curtail this embarrassing situation.

This years Basic Education Certificate Examinations has not been exceptional. Some teachers who escorted their learners to the Opoku Ware Senior High School which happened to be their center found themselves at the wrong side of the law on Thursday, 18th november, 2021. In their quest to assist their learners, two teachers were spotted roaming around the classroom where the learners were writing the exams. Some security personnel present at the centre, who were in mufti spotted the said two teachers and accosted them accordingly. Upon interrogation and further search on them, retrieved pieces of papers with answered theory and objective questions suspected to be related to the ongoing exams.

The security personnel further approached passersby on the OWASS campus for their mission. Suspected persons were searched, seized phones and forced owners to unlock the screen for further scrutiny. Four more teachers were accosted and sent to Sofoline police Station at North Suntreso for further investigations.

The six arrested teachers spent the night at the police custody and were brought to the centre in police van the following day 19th November. The van left the campus with the said teachers within few minutes.

The name of the school(s) where those teachers represent has not been disclosed yet. The news was reported by Sylvester Boakye on Oyerepa midday news today, 20th November, 2021.

It must be recalled that 12 teachers with their headteacher were arrested at Ofinso over examination malpractice on Monday when the exams commenced.

What at all will make teachers depend on dubious means to assist their learners after eagerly preparing them?
