The president of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Phillipa Larsen has indicated that the union currently has not collated any data on the number of teachers who have been infected with the novel virus.
Speaking on Joy News’s ‘The Probe’ monitored by Listengh.net, she indicated that even though there are numerous reports from sources that both teachers and learners are contracting the virus daily but they do not have the data to support it.
“For now, we have no data as to the number of teachers who have been infected. We have some issues with the fact that some teachers or learners have been infected – even that one we don’t have the full data”, she indicated.
She however revealed that protective measures have been put in place in the various schools across the country to safeguard students and teachers as the government has provided Personal Protective Equipment.
In her submission, she further stated that all schools are mapped to a health facility to enable schools to report emergency cases as soon as possible.
With the issue of churches worshipping in school premises, she frowned upon the issue by stating that churches that do that are going contrary to the president’s and the Ghana Education Service (GES) directives.
“Before the reopening for the candidates to write their exit examination and the second years, in the address of the president, he stated that the schools because they have disinfected and fumigated, no other activity should go on in the school and so for me I do not expect any church to be worshipping in the school premises”, she indicated.
