The notion that some industry players should be sidelined to pave way for the young acts in Ghana music to win awards, in order to motivate them, has sunk well among fans of the creative sector. The idea started years ago, but gained weight when the two dancehall superstars Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were suspended for 2020 VGMA Award.
The truth is only a single person seems to be the target for this advocacy. Those who hold this opinion always suggest it is time to relegate Sarkodie from the awards for a tangible but intangible reason. The award scheme was established to reward hard work. All acts can put in the effort during the year under review, a more reason to make the winner deservingly chosen to push the industry, as a whole, forward. The evidences are clear VGMA has bought the idea.
Nominating Sarkodie, especially for Artiste Of The Year, adds massive clout. Is that the reason why Charterhouse keeps naming him? For the excitement, revenue and crowd? If you think he deserves it for his hard work, then people should stop propagating such agendas. Young acts should be motivated, not favoured. They have to earn the medal, not get handed over to.
