The breakdown of the Ghana movie industry especially the Kumawood has been traced to many issues. Actress Christiana Awuni on Bryt television expressed her views on why the Kumawood industry has not been vibrant quite sometime.
She said that everyone is responsible for the struggle Kumawood is going through. She said from Producers to Marketers to Actors to Media to Consumers all played a role in the killing of the industry. She stated that Producers failed to pay Writers and Actors on time and sometimes in fail to pay in full. She stressed that the attitude of the Producers made the Writers and Actors to lose the energy they carry when writing and acting.
She further said the Marketors and Media fail to promote the contents produced in the industry. She also said the introduction of foreign series which have their content audible and subtitled in the local dialect also gave the Kumawood industry a huge blow. On the side of Actors, she said their attitudes towards producers, colleagues and attitudes in the public space also played some role in the breakdown process.
She also pointed out that the Ghanaian people also had low patronage on their contents. She also noted that some contents provided was poor, from the story and production perspective. She raised that due to lack of structures which outlines their process of work, everyone is able to produce any content in the tag of Kumawood. She said all these in an interview on Bryt television entertainment show hosted by MC Yaa Yeboah.
