It was all joy for the management and majority of Ghanaians when the new governing board for the National Communications Authority (NCA) finally approved the operations of some popular radio stations whose licenses were revoked. The renewal comes with excitement for Ghanaians who lamented and expressed disappointment in the decision in the NCA's decision in 2019.
The statement from the office of the NCA indicated that other redio stations that were prohibited from operation by the outcome of the audit have had their licenses reviewed and renewed. This course, worthy of praise has caused massive stir online as many prominent Ghanaian journalist, political analysts and social commentators have shared their dissenting views on it.
Outspoken Journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Mr. Kwesi Pratt has finally waded into reactions concerning the National Communications Authority decision to restore Radio Gold, Radio XYZ. According to Kwesi Pratt, per his recent survey on the operations and advertisement of certain television stations, he deems the closure of the aforementioned radio stations as unfair.
He made this comment when he was interviewed by Dr. Randy Abbey on the Good Morning Ghana show. He indicated that, the NCA can only be vindicated if they swiftly take a bold decision to audit some radio stations that are showing all sort of unnecessary things to the youths of the country. He stated that the failure of the NCA to undertake a new audit would prove their hypocrisy and incompetence.
Speaking further, he registered his utmost displeasure in the advertisement of spiritual prowess and money rituals on television. In what he described as a disgusting experience, he found it difficult to his head around the NCA's dormant gesture in closing down the radio and television stations.
He said, "I had time to watch television this week, and I was completely shocked. I saw a Christian priest who owns a television and advertising how he can make people fall in love. A whole lot of unhealthy things are being discussed and we tolerate it."
He added, "How much damage has radio gold and radio XYZ done to Ghanaians than the ones that are showing right now. I cannot keep quiet about this issue because I feel it was simply unfair to close them down. They should close down all the stations that do money rituals advert."
