The host of Johnnie's Bite on TV3 New Day, Johnnie Hughes, has today, questioned the Police over the arrest of his fellow journalist at Accra FM, Kwabena Bobie Ansah.
Kwabena Bobie Ansah was arrested by the Police yesterday after his show, " The Citizens" on Accra FM. This morning, February 11, 2022, the Police tweeted that, Mr. Bobie Ansah was arrested for false publications and offensive conduct.
They also mentioned that his arrest became necessary after he turned down several invitations by the Police to him.
"Kwabena Bobie Ansah Arrested for Publication of False News. Mr. Kwabena Bobie Ansah of Accra FM was arrested yesterday, February 10, 2022, by the Accra Regional Police Command in connection with an alleged case of publication of false news and offensive conduct." The Police tweeted.
Meanwhile, a producer of the show said Mr. Kwabena Bobie Ansah was arrested in a rambo style on the night of February 10, 2022, after his show. He also mentioned that he was arrested by some people from National Security and the Police.
However, while Johnnie Hughes was addressing Bobie's arrest on Johnnie's Bite today, February 11, 2022, he questioned why journalists who are alleged to have committed an offense are always arrested in a rambo style. He mentioned it's so bad for the Police to keep arresting journalists in that manner.
He also questioned what is the interest of the state in a post he made to slander someone? Why is that person he slandered not taking him up but the state had to do so?
" That kind of rambo style arrest under a democratic leader and a human rights lawyer makes me think. Why should the Police keep arresting journalists like that?" He boldly questioned the Police
" I'm not by any means supporting what the gentleman said but I'm asking that if it's true that the gentleman slanders someone in his post, what is the interest of the state in that? Is it not within the domain of a civil matter?" Johnnie boldly questioned the Police while sympathizing with his fellow journalist.
