Many of us were still young when actor and comedian Bob Santo was still in his peak entertaining Ghanaians. For some of us, we could not miss a moment with him on the concert party program with the black and white television belonging to that rich man in our community.
As young as we were at the time, we cherished the moments of Santo because he would definitely put smiles on our faces when he appears on stage. Apart from that, his movies were interesting to watch. John Evans Kwadwo Bosompem died mysteriously and his funeral was held in his Akyem Awisa Hometown in the eastern region of Ghana. At the time, technology had not evolved like today and many were not present to witness the funeral.
Hundreds of mourners from all over the country and beyond attended the funeral at the time but one thing that many have not really spoken about was the kind of Coffin Bob Santo was buried with. The likes of Nana Ampadu, Judas, Nana Yaw Osafo Marfo, and many others were present in their numbers to pay their final respect. His coffin was placed in the middle of the funeral ground with mourners filing past it.
It was beautifully designed with gold and brown colors. Looking at his personality, family members went for an elaborative coffin for the burial. Pictures of the comedian in his active days were placed beside the coffin for mourners to have a glance of who Bob Santo was. It was a sad moment when the coffin was finally carried to the cemetery.
Many young people of today missed this memorable moment. Television and technology were not as common at the time as it has become today. Only those who were at the funeral grounds had the opportunity of witnessing the funeral and the kind of coffin used for the burial of their favorite actor, Bob Santo. Well, I was also young and could not see this memorable and sad moment.
