Gabby Otchere Darko, one of the key advocacies for the New Patriotic Party and a strong voice against the NDC has reacted to the increased in tariff on electricity in Ghana.
In his recent post on Twitter, Gabby Otchere Darko revealed that he is happy with the way Ghanaians have reacted to the increment of electricity tariffs. He added that Ghanaians appreciate the effort made by the government to supply them with lights despite the hardships. He also added that Ghanaians will surely pay this new increment in tariffs because they know that low "Dumsor" is not coming back.
"I’m encouraged by the reaction of the Ghanaian people to the 27% increase in electricity tariffs. It shows when you do well they appreciate, like efforts by this govt to keep the lights on and tariffs low in spite of the major challenges and will pay a little more to avoid dumsor" he tweeted. Link
Some Ghanaians have reacted to his tweet and below are some reactions.
From the few reactions above, most Ghanaians are not really happy with what Gabby Otchere Darko said. They believe that he is always defending this administration no matter what they do. Others revealed that there is no increment in salaries, yet the government is increasing tariffs.
This comes after utility companies including the Electricity Company of Ghana and Ghana Water Company Limited proposed an increase in tariffs by 148% and 334% respectively. The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) listened to their plea but rather announced a 27.15% increase in tariff for electricity and 21.55% increase in water tariff effective September 1, 2022. This announcement was made on Monday, 15th August, 2022.
