Theresa Roemer, 56, was born on a ranch in Nebraska.
She grew up with three siblings and lived a very simple, small-town life
“I was a tomboy,” Theresa says. “I wanted to spend every minute outside because, as a child, I was sick all the time and always wanted to run away from my illness. My brother and I were best friends … we did everything together.”
In junior high school, Theresa devoted her energy toward sports and became a star basketball player – but love eventually took the No. 1 spot on her list of priorities.
“I turned down a sports scholarship to Black Hills State University (in South Dakota),” she explains. “I met my first husband in high school, and I thought I was supposed to have this white-picket fence life, after growing up on a ranch. You know – marry a rancher, have kids, and live happily ever after … but turns out, I was wrong. I went through seven years of hell.”
After that marriage ended, however, one of Theresa’s friends became her knight in shining armor.
