Here in Ghana, you can't talk about comedy without talking about two people, and any list of comedians without their name is either not exhaustive or untrue. These people are Oteele and Dabo.
The Kumawood arts industry has always been a vibrant one in the entertainment industry un Ghana. The industry has seen its fair share of performers' turnover since it creation. It has produced a lot of competent, proficient and successful people in Ghana. Talk about the likes of Agya Koo, Mercy Asiedu, Nana Ama McBrown, Kyeiwaa, Emilia Brobbey, Matilda Asare and a lot of other important personalities in Ghana.
Oteele and Dabo may each be regarded as a pillar in the industry. They have both starred and co-starred in a lot of movies and almost every Ghanaian love them, especially when they both star in a single movie. Their creative and natural ability and to cause the masses to laugh has made the very famous. Oteele's real name is Yao Mawunyo, and most people also refer to him as Biggie. It is widely believed that the name 'Oteele' was given to him by his colleague Yaw Dabo in one of their movies. He is the son of an army officer and a kenkey seller and so he lived his childhood days at a military barracks in Kumasi.
Samuel Nana Yaw Dabo, on the other hand was brought into the movie industry by the pioneer actor, Kwaku Manu. He is known by most people as 'Adwen Kesee' due owing to how smart and unpredictably wise he is. It was rumored that he had difficulty entering the industry, before Kwaku Manu intervened. Evidently, Dabo seem to be doing the most, since he joined the industry. He is very smart, gentle and also business minded. He currently has a few businesses to his name, including a local soccer team.
What do you like about Dabo or Oteele? Let me know your thoughts by leaving a comment in the box below, thank you.
