'Joe Mettle Did Nothing For Artiste Of The Year Nomination’ – Ras Kuuku

Kojo Kurankye, commonly known as Ras Kuuku, a reggae/dancehall performer, is upset about gospel musician Joe Mettle's candidacy for the 2022 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards' 'Artiste of the Year' category.

Fameye, a hip-hop musician, is a deserving nominee for the category, according to the singer, given the success of his work in the previous year.

"What did Joe Mettle achieve this year to earn a nomination in the Artiste of the Year category?" he asked on Daybreak Hitz. Which of Joe Mettle's songs comes close to matching Fameye's "Praise"? He questioned Andy Dosty, "Tell me."

"All of the Artiste of the Year nominees did well last year, but Joe Mettle stood out. He continued, "All the music bloggers and fans want to know what he did to get there."

This comes after the "Kpagum Style" hitmaker questioned the Ghanaian music industry on Facebook on Sunday, asking if the Ghana Music Award scheme belonged to the "Bo Noo Ni" hitmaker.Ras Kuuku claims the Academy and the VGMA Board of Directors are biased towards the former Soul Winners lead singer.

Surprisingly, the PUOM President claims he had never heard of Joe Mettle before he won the VGMA's 'Artiste of the Year' award in 2017.

Joe Mettle was unknown to me, Kojo Korankye, until he won the Artiste of the Year prize. He was someone I had never met before. None of his tunes were familiar to me. "It's a fact," he revealed.

"I don't have to listen to gospel songs in order to determine whether one is a hit," Kuuku said when asked if he listened to gospel tunes.

Even though Kuuku wanted Joe Mettle to be replaced by Fameye in the Artiste of the Year category, he complained that his song, "Fakye," was filed for nomination in the Record of the Year category but did not receive a nomination, despite being a hit in his opinion.

"My song [Fakye] should have been recognized," he says of the reasons he believes "Fakye" was not nominated. Why? Was it due of the song's political satire? Certainly, some of the board members are NDC and NPP members. Regardless, we must keep politicians on their toes," he stated emphatically.
