Stevland Hardaway Morris known professionally as Stevie Wonder, is a songwriter, musician and producer. The "Send one your love" and "Master blaster," hitmaker has revealed political turmoil in the US as a reason for leaving one of the richest countries in the world.
The iconic, award-winning performer spoke to Oprah Winfrey in an interview illuminating his verdict, quoting the politically aware turmoil in the United States as a major fueling factor. He said "I wanna see this nation smile again. And I want to see it before I leave to travel to move to Ghana because I'm going to do that."
In a surprising mood, Winfrey then inquired, "You're going to permanently move to Ghana?" Oprah’s query was genuine when the nature of a developed world and a developing or under-developed world are taken into consideration. From food to shelter to security to general well-being, Oprah wanted to be sure of what his friend said.
"I am," retorted the singer, known for such hits as "You Are the Sunshine of My Life" and "I Just Called to Say I Love You." He added, "I don't want to see my children's children's children have to say, 'Oh please like me. Please respect me, please know that I am important, please value me.' What is that?"
However, this isn't the first time he has said he was considering moving to Ghana. In 1994, he said he felt there was "more of a sense of community" than in the US. Blind since shortly after his birth, Steve Wonder has sold over 100 million records worldwide. He is also one of the best-selling artists of all time with 22 Grammy Awards. Wonder, from Michigan, learned to play piano, drums at an early age and signed to Motown in 1961.
Will his coming to Ghana be a good move? How will he cope with the culture, the food, the language, the infrastructure, the poor road network and above all, what happens if dumsor dumsor (Power outages) increase? We wish him the best .
