Ghana is one country that prides itself with the many advantages over other countries in every sector of life. For example, every Ghanaian thinks the nation is a powerhouse in Africa as far talent is the subject of discussion. In the music industry, people expect acts from this country to excel not only in Africa but also cross continental borders and oceans. Do these expectations match our reality? Let’s find out by drawing the comparison line to review the truth as it is.
First, there are talents here, in Ghana, that can make every country’s music reach overseas. Even without the proper developmental facilities and system, our artistes have chalked some massive global recognitions. If these systems were in place, our talents would have been all over the world and our dominance in the continent would have been established. The reality is we are underperforming and we waste these talents with no one to care.
Today, the players in our music industry lack the Investment to project their works at the International level. Fans assume these acts are not trying hard enough to win, while the stars also think these fans are not supportive enough to propel them to such heights. We expect the industry to be rich, but the hardship is truly strong to overcome. Royalties are no where near stable, young acts suffer to get labels, and every promoter wants to take advantage of rots in the system.
Nigeria, as a whole, keeps gaining International attention than Ghana. What do we have to do to harness the full potential in Ghana music?
