As Ghanaians in the country and across the world celebrated Nkrumah Memorial Day yesterday, many people took it to social media to share some memories and love. Nkrumah’s granddaughter, Princess Fathia, was not left out of the celebration. The TV presenter also shared some photos of his grandfather as she modelled in special Kwame Nkrumah jeans to celebrate the hero.

Princess Fathia Nkrumah, the daughter of Dr Sekou Nkrumah, popped up on social media yesterday with stunning photos and some quotes he made.

On 21st September 2021, Ghana's first president Dr Kwame Nkrumah would have been 112 years If he was still alive.

Yesterday, being a statutory holiday to honour Nkrumah, social media got flooded with Nkrumah's photos and quotes just to remember the hero.

Princess Fathia also joined and didn't want to miss the moment. In the photos she shared on her social media pages, she was spotted wearing a well-customised blouse made from the Ghana flag. She combined the blouse with a customized pair of trousers which were made with Nkrumah's pictures.

Princess Fathia Nkrumah promised her grandfather of keeping his memory forever, while she wished him a happy birthday.

On the pictures she posted, she captioned with a quote from Dr Kwame Nkrumah saying:

First post:

"We have awakened. We will not sleep anymore. Today, from now on, there is a new African in the world!” -Kwame Nkrumah

"Today on Grandpa’s birthday let us remember to stay awake on our fight for freedom and equality for all. Now is not the time to allow bigotry, intolerance and hate to tear us apart and prevent us from achieving heights that we are more than capable of. Today, remember his words, “The forces that unite us are intrinsic and greater than the superimposed influences that keep us apart"

Second post:

“I am in the knowledge that death can never extinguish the torch which I have lit in Ghana and Africa. Long after I am dead and gone, the light will continue to burn and be borne aloft, giving light and guidance to all people.” (Epitaph on Nkrumah’s mausoleum in Nkroful, the village of his birth in southern Ghana.)

On my Grandfather’s birthday and in celebration of National Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, here are a few photos of him smiling in the knowledge that death can never extinguish the torch he has lit on this continent, in this country and in our hearts!"

Third post:

"Happy Birthday Grandpa I will hold you in my heart forever!  And Happy Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day to you all!"

“In honour of this beautiful day let me share one of my favourite quotes of his in hopes of it inspires you as much as it inspires me and fuels your own strive for excellence in a world that has continuously told us we cannot. “

“We have the blessing of the wealth of our vast resources, the power of our talents and the potentialities of our people. Let us grasp now the opportunities before us and meet the challenge to our survival. ” -Kwame Nkrumah (Address to the National Assembly. 26 March 1965).”
