11 years ago, Sam Okyere who happens to be born and breaded in Ghana set foot on the South Korean Soil as part of a scholarship to study computer engineering. Being a black person in an Asian state at the time, the young man was met with a hash reality which he was able to turn into something positive, making a name for himself as a television personality.
Today, Sam is one of the most famous personalities in South Korea. You might find him in most of the popular reality shows in South Korea. In fact he can hardly walk on the popular street downtown without being stooped by loved ones; both the aged and the young, for autographs.
Sam Okyere was born on April 21, 1991, in Ghana and would by God's grace turn thirty years old in April 2021. As noted earlier, the the then young man decided to apply and subsequently became a beneficiary of a South Korean Scholarship. This was the Korean Government Scholarship program in 2009 for Computer Engineering at Sogang University in Seoul. Sam Okyere's experiences in South Korea in his first days was not so pleasant as the reality brought him face-to-face with racism, which made him more interested in their culture and language.
The young man then decided to learn the dialect of the Korean people which he became very fluent and got to associate more with others in the process. This became the foundation for which Sam stands tall to be the celebrated personality we see today.
Sam Okyere is very popular and has featured on many movies and television shows. In 2013, he starred in tvN's series ''Island Village Teacher''.
In an interview with international broadcaster, DW TV Sam explained that "There are times that I have to wear a hat and a mask. People from different age groups are coming up to me. I have got grandmas coming up to me, I've got babies coming up to me, young adults, high schoolers, people from different age ranges coming up to me asking for autographs. If somebody would have told me a couple of years ago that that would happen, I would have said: No, that's not possible."
