Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, member of Parliament for Kwadaso was left to take verbal salvos from Kwesi Pratt and Randy Abbey today on Metro TV’s popular morning show, Good Morning Ghana. The PhD holder was virtually sandwiched as he tried to maneuver his way around the arguments being thrown at him. Dr. Nyarko and Kwesi Pratt were engaged on the show to discuss the ongoing debates about the IMF.
According to Dr. Kingsley Nyarko, it is erroneous to blame the government for how the country’s economy has turned out. He opined that based on the projects that the government undertook, the logical end was this mess. He maintained that nobody can take out the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ukraine-Russian war as catalysts to where Ghana is now.
This apparently didn’t go well with Randy and Kwesi Pratt. Kwesi insisted that he is appalled that government still maintains that Covid has ravaged the country when it is clear that government also received huge monies to revive the country. Randy added that it is interesting to know that based on the mid-year budgets of 2021, 19.3 billion was mobilized in 2020 and 6.39 billion in 2021 as a result of Covid. He wondered what happened to those monies. Dr. Nyarko denied the figures and this forced Randy to refer him to his own document before him.
Dr. Nyarko later admitted Randy was right. Randy probed further about what happened to the monies mobilized and whether Covid-19could have had a big impact on the country. At that point Dr. Nyarko noted that the discussion should be skipped so that they all wait for the committee’s investigation on how Covid-19 funds were disbursed.
The inconsistent utterances of Dr. Nyarko didn’t go unnoticed as the Facebook page of the show was flooded with messages for Dr. Kingsley Nyarko. It was apparent that the comments were geared at his supposed confusion at the matters being discussed and running for the topics. Check out some of the reactions.
