Media personality and host of Onua FM's 'Onua Maakye', Blessed Godsbrain Smart, popularly known as Captain Smart, has been in the news severally, for some allegations he has made over time. The Onua FM morning show host is popular for his 'controversial' criticism of government and politicians, always revealing hidden facts and allegations. It is therefore not new to Ghanaians that he has been sued GHS10million for defamation by the minister of works and housing, Asenso Boakye.
According to the minister, Captain Smart published a false information about him which he wants Captain Smart to retract and apologize for. According to Asenso-Boakye, Captain Smart alleged that when he was the Chief of Staff at the presidency, he used his position to prevent the transfer of a staff member at Ghana Revenue Authority so as to prevent an ongoing investigation into alleged misconduct by the GRA officer.
The Bantama MP, Hon. Asenso Boakye calls this claim as 'wicked lies' and says there is no iota of truth in it. He believes Captain Smart deliberately made these statements to destroy his image, hence, the suit.
In a writ issued on Tuesday, September 6, he is seeking amongst other things for a retraction and an apology, seven days after the judgement. He also wants a compensation of GHS10million paid to him by Captain Smart and his employers Media General).
As to how the GHS10million suit case will go, we are yet to see as the Accra high court sits to decide in the coming days. Many believe that Captain Smart has gone too far this time around and made claims that may not be true. However, others are of the view that Smart is highly connected and will only make these claims if he had proof.
