I almost committed suicide – Ghanaian contemporary gospel singer Ohemaa Mercy reveals

Ohemaa Mercy, known in private life as Mercy Twum-Ampofo, recalled how she almost committed suicide by stabbing herself except for a Christian brother's timely intervention.

According to her, after she was arrested for lying, she tried to kill herself in the name of a prophetess with whom she lived in Koforidua, Eastern Region, where she grew up. "I recall I once lived in a house where the landlady was a Prophetess, and I used her name to ask her friend for money when she was unaware of it. So it happened one day that the woman I went to take the money from came for the prophetess' prayers, and that's what happened. In an interview with Kumasi-based Pure FM, monitored by, Ohemaa Mercy posted. "I had told the lady that my landlady was already throwing me from home, but I had a serious problem then and I couldn't tell the lady to give me the money, so at that time I had to lie to the expense of the Prophetess I lived with. As she came to meet her, she asked, "Is that the woman you said was maltreating you? I would speak to her if I knew I would allow you to stay."

A Sunday after the church, Ohemaa Mercy persisted when she was summoned in the presence of elders and pastors of the church. She was scolded because she lied to ask for the money without the prophet's permission.

It was a strange spectacle according to Ohemaa Mercy, who told Hammer Nti about her ordeal on the show Hammer Time.

"I wanted the world to consume me at that moment. She admitted that I ran into my room, took a knife and decided to kill me even though I could hear my child call me, because Satan is ever stronger when he wants you to do stuff that harm yourself."

"It was this brother who broke up in her room to save me, God being so sweet. It's not the end of my life, and God has so much for me that I remember he said, I shouldn't kill myself. Indeed, I thank God for my brother who has saved my life," she admitted.
