Highlife Musician Dies After Protracted Illness At Age 76 Years

Popular and well known highlife legend Nana Kwame Ampadu also known as Nwontofohene in the Ghanaian music genre who is credited with numerous popular highlife hit tracks and he is believed to have composed not less than 700 songs to his title.

Nana Ampadu was born to the then Head of the Asona clan of Obo Kwahu in the Eastern part of Ghana 'Opanin Kwame Ampadu' and Madam Mercy Afua Ntriwaa, both are stanch members of Presbyterian church of Ghana Obo Kwahu district. He was born on 31st March 1945 and was name after his own father "Opanin Kwame Ampadu."

The Deceased (Nana Ampadu) was one time president of MUSIGA and played a major role as a leader in formation of the African Brothers Band, formed in 1963. From 1972 - 1993 the Band "Africa Bothers have won numerous awards including LEGON HALL AWARDS in 1981, ACRAG AWARDS, ECRAG AWARDS, REX IMAGE AWARDS and many more others.

One of his greatest awards was the one conferred on him as "NWONTOFOHENE NANA KWAME AMPADU 1" (KING OF SINGERS) in 1973. He also won numerous national and international awards with the band and to himself as well.

Nana Ampadu publicly declared his stance into evangelism and dedicated his life to the service of his maker (God). Since his public declaration, he has been inactive but more active on his personal and private life due to old and health issues.

Nwontofohene was confirmed died on Tuesday afternoon, September 28, 2021 at legon hospital in Accra Ghana where he was receiving treatment for an illness. He is believed to have passed on at age 76 years.
