Acting is an age old occupation. Long before the invention of video and its contemporary technologies, thespians (an old and uncommon name for actors) practiced their craft on stage in front of a live audience. Since the invention of television, stage acting has now transitioned into film acting.
Movie/Film acting has over the years entertained Ghanaians. In the early days when Ghana Television was the only TV station in Ghana, some of these actors were the chief entertainers in Ghana. Almost every Tom, Dick and Harry knew and loved them. Lots of people couldn't wait for Christmas, Easter or any major holiday to see their beloved stars on TV (GTV in those days only showed movies/films on specific holidays).
Though acting in Ghana was not lucrative in the earlier times, these actors gave it their all. Most receive peanuts and had nothing to write home or boast about in the twilight of their careers. Most of those who have passed away, did so as paupers and those who are still alive are struggling to make ends meet. This article celebrates their gallant contributions which seems to have laid a firm foundation for the noble profession of acting as we know it today.

This article is very grateful for their enormous contribution to the foundation amd growth of entertainment in Ghana. Without their sweat and blood, we would not be enjoying entertainment as we see it today. May the Almighty richly bless their efforts.
