Brother Sammy is a well-known gospel musician. I personally don't really know any Brother Sammy songs as I do other Ghanaian Gospel artists, but I have seen videos of him normally giving renditions of "secular" in a faith environment. He was recently singing Kuami Eugene's Abodie verse as a praise medley; I did enjoy that rendition. He even used Sarkodie's "Obedepcnbede" catchphrase in that video.
And now Brother Sammy has released a "gospel" song called "Allahu Akbar". Aside from the Afrobeat nature of the song, the song seems to have been made for Muslims for celebrations during ramadan. And frankly, the whole situation would be worse if he didn't make the song for Muslims. Why the Title Then?
I am a little surprised to be seeing Brother Sammy doing stuff like this for a man who is regarded as one of the best worshippers of God, musically. But then again I don't really hear anything about him till he does these antics. Be honest how often do you hear of Brother Sammy, if you are not a follower of his. I rarely do, so this makes me believe that he actually does these things for attention.
I am sure the Allahu Akbar song is well made because clearly, Brother Sammy is a talented musician, but I really don't want to listen because it is starting to feel a little forced at this point. I am unsure what Brother Sammy stands for currently, but I might change my mind. My curiosity will probably lead me to listen to the song.
Have you listened to the song? What do you think of it? Let me know in the comment section.
