It was the first of it kind on Ghana, a music talent reality show , which housed the contestants at one location until the entire program ended. TV3 network had chalked successes in airing programs which were first of its kind and hence enjoying huge patronage.
People took ‘Mentor1’ to heart. Because the contestants were housed at one location with the house having cameras like it is done in ‘Big Brother’, viewers had the opportunity to observe their favorite contestants go about their everyday lives and rehearse for their performances. At the end of the week, contestants with the least votes were evicted.
The contestants were selected on regional basis and as a result enjoyed massive support from them. Who does not remember exciting and talented contestants like Okuraseni Samuel, Hakeem Shabaz, Odarky Andy, Prince Tufuor,Ruth and others.
The patronage and attachment people had for the program was so high in Ghana that, there were reports that people collapsed when their favorite contestants were evicted. That was the kind of hold ‘Mentor 1’ had on Ghanaians.
