Yesterday saw the sentencing of Ghanaian comedienne, Akuapem Poloo. Before yesterday many had prayed that the court free her. A host of celebrities joined in a hashtag to get her freed. This was because at the last hearing the court made her go test if she was pregnant. Despite the pleas, Rosemond Brown was jailed for 90 days.
There has been mixed reactions after the sentencing. According to Afia Pokua, popularly called Vim Lady, today, Saturday, April 17, 2021 on ‘Critical Issues’, the judge did nothing wrong. She noted that most of those who were calling for the release of Ms. Brown have no knowledge of the law and how it operates.
Our celebrities are there calling for Akuapem Poloo to be freed. They were advocating for her but she came to court in a taxi. They could get her a car or a lawyer. The same Ghanaians who criticized Akuapem Poloo for dropping the photos are the same asking her to be freed. I remember Ghanaians insulted me when I criticized Rashida Black Beauty. The judge acted according to the law. Most of those talking don’t know the law. You have not done any homework and yet you are complaining.
The issue is not with the lawyer or the judge. It is about our laws. You can’t compare Nam 1’s case to that of Akuapem Poloo. Nam 1’s case is a civil case. They are two different case. Most of the celebrities talking have no knowledge of the laws. If you don’t know the laws, shut up” Afia said.
Do you agree with her? Was the sentence fair? Wasn’t it the same social media that called for Rosemond to be reprimanded? Why the change of mind? Will this sentence be a good example for young ladies?
