Wendy Shay has expressed mixed feelings of regret and indifference about not winning an award two weeks after the 2021 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards event.
Wendy stated in an interview with Zylofon FM that she did not expect to win the ‘Afrobeats Song of the Year' category for which she was nominated because she is not a favorite of industry insiders.
The RuffTown Records artist was nominated for a Grammy Award.
With his song "Say Cheese," KiDi took up the trophy on the night.
Wendy Shay, however, reacted to the news by saying, "In Ghana, there are two categories of artistes: industry artistes and artistes in the industry." The first group consists of folks who have industry buddies who lavishly treat them, even when they are not particularly talented. Wendy Shay is an artiste in the industry, therefore I didn't expect a response.
When asked by the host if her previous award was by virtue of her affiliation with some stakeholders, Wendy responded in the negative.
She claimed that everyone knew she had released "bangers" at the time and that she deserved to win the "New Artiste of the Year" title.
