Capt Smart Calls Out Wontumi For Allegedly Destroying Samreboi Forest: Calls 'Galamsey' Fight A Fiasco

At this juncture, let us presume that the fight against illegal mining otherwise known as 'galamsey' has failed and the various campaigns to sensitize the youth and others involved in the act is nothing to write home about.

The more resources are committed to combating this menace, the worse it gets and day in and day out, the river bodies and forest reserves are polluted with mercy and cyanide much to the detriment of the masses who drink from it.

Captain Smart, the indefatigable journalist of multimedia and morning show host of "Onua Maakye," is doing a yeoman's job and if all media persons will emulate his dexterity and bring to light happenings in the mining sector, the activities of illegal mining will be curtailed.

Speaking this morning, he lambasted the government and labeled the efforts of those who claim to be fighting the menace as a fiasco. To him, their efforts are just in vain because the politicians pretend to be addressing the issue.

According to him, those involved are the same pretending to be fighting it and prominent individuals know those who are behind it. It is either their accomplices or conniving with them.

Capt Smart alleged that the Ashanti regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Antwi Boasiako popularly known as Chairman Wontumi is the owner of Akonta Mines which has destroyed two important forests: the Mim and Samreboi forests.

Sadly, everyone is quiet just because he is a politician. The President once pledged to put his presidency on the line to fight the menace and close to 400 million dollars has been spent on this campaign which has yielded no results," he concluded.
