Environmental Allert : Illegal Logging And Charcoal Burning Still Happening Despite Ban In Savannah

Few Months after Chiefs and Traditional Leaders in the Savannah Region announced a ban on illegal logging of trees and charcoal burning, some unscrupulous persons are still engaged in these activities.

According to some residents in the Savannah Region, despite the ban on illegal logging of trees and burning of charcoal in the area, some people are still engaged in that.

These people undertook their nefarious activities at the blind side of security agencies and task force in charge of checking this.

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources together with Chiefs and other stakeholders announced the ban to preserve the environment from destructions.

The ban was hailed by environmental campaigners and even the United Nations as it is seen as a step in the right direction in achieving the fight against Global warming.

Majority of the people engaged in the illegal logging and charcoal burning complained about their livelihood as they have nothing to do earn a living.

Environmental campaignsers have argued that, the change in the rainfall pattern is due to illegal logging of trees and burning of charcoal in some parts of the Country.
