Senegal is the country were the pink lake can be found. The Republic of Senegal, is a West African country. Senegal is bounded to the north by Mauritania, to the east by Mali, to the southeast by Guinea, and to the southwest by Guinea-Bissau.

Less than an hour from Senegal's capital city, there is an unusual lake that will undoubtedly catch the unwary visitor's eye due to its unusual yet vivid pink color.

Lake Retba (or Lac Rose as it is known by locals) is only separated from the Atlantic Ocean by a few narrow dunes and, as expected, has a high salt content.

Lake Retba is a coral pink lake on the edge of Senegal's Cap Vert peninsula, a lush coastal region.

This unique body of water, nestled between white sand dunes and the Atlantic Ocean, was once the finish line of the Dakar Rally, an off-road car race.

Since 2005, the three-square-kilometer fuchsia lake has been a candidate for UNESCO World Heritage status, and it is quickly becoming one of Africa's most popular tourist destinations.
