Martha Asare is the CEO of Martha’s Beauty Supply and Braiding Inc, located in Bolingbrook, Chicago, one of the biggest beauty shops in the area.
In an interview on SVTV Africa, Martha shared her success story with host DJ Nyaami. She revealed that upon her arrival, she decided to make her passion her profession.
According to Martha, she took time off to learn a skill before travelling abroad. Martha stayed in Germany for five years before settling in Chicago.
“I worked in a warehouse, nursing home about two years before setting the business. I decided to use my talent to set up a business, and my brother helped me.
I used the income I got from braiding to buy beauty products. Many people discouraged me, but I did not give up,” she said.
Martha shared some of the challenges involved in establishing a business in the USA. She disclosed that, unlike in Ghana, she had to go through many processes to obtain a business license.
“It’s been thirteen years since I launched it. I have about 15 permanent workers. We sell and supply all beauty products, and I still do the braiding, as well,” she said on Daily Hustle Worldwide.
Moreover, Mrs Asare has two other shops in Accra and Kumasi. She advised the youth to focus on making their talent a profession if they don't get an education.
