Albinism is a congenital disorder characterized in humans by the complete absence of pigment in the skin, hair and eyes. Albinism is associated with a number of vision defects, such photophobia and amblyopia. Lack of skin pigmentation makes for more susceptibility sunburn and skin cancers. Albinism may be associated with deficiencies in the transportation of melanin granules. This also affects essential granules present in immune cells leading to increased susceptibility to infection.
Lara and Mara Bawar aren’t your typical supermodels, but their striking looks are causing a stir in the fashion world. Albinism is a disease that induces a loss is skin and hair pigment, and the 11 year old twins from São Paulo Brazil accept it wholeheartedly.
